Question :

I am trying to weigh up either using premium in TS (remote desktop) or get premium for web.

My problem is that users don’t always use the same machine and work from home.

Now web might be the answer. But there are some questions

  • -Can ACT Mail import PST files??
  • -Are users emails (using ACT Mail) saved to the server so that they are accessible from different machine when logged in?
  • -Is there a server folder for documents that all users access for ACT

My main concern is emails. And any effects for multi users when they move to a different machine or work from home

Answer:

  • -Can ACT Mail import PST files??
    • No, but you can connect it to Outlook
  • -Are users emails (using ACT Mail) saved to the server so that they are accessible from a different machine when logged in?
    • If you record the emails to History, they’ll be stored in ACT!
  • -Is there a server folder for documents that all users access for ACT
    • Docs attached to ACT! are stored in the Attachment folder

We have set up just such an environment for our Hosted Customers. ACT Premium over Citrix. Let’s users import data, access from anywhere. If you have Exchange, it is possible to have email on the Citrix server sync to your local machines.

Your email question – pop3 email will have a problem as users move from one machine to another unless it is hosted and that .pst file is only on the server. Exchange (if you have it) would allow them to move from machine to machine.

In our hosted environments via Citrix – All users use ACT premium and all programs are on the server, Shared data folder is on the server. Users log in from wherever they are and use everything.  It is more secure and quite easy to turn users on and off once it’s set up.

The good thing about ACT premium (full desktop) and ACT for WEB.  You could serve out both and allow users to pick which is best based upon their environment. We do this all the time. Contact me if you have any question.
